Four-season protection

The outer shell is made from ABS plastic, which forms a rigid, impact-resistant lid that seals the tent on the road and sheds rain and snow at camp. The rainfly uses 420D polyester Oxford, waterproof to 2500 mm and treated for UV and mold resistance, adding another layer of protection over the sleeping area. The tent body is 280 g rip-stop canvas, also waterproof to 2500 mm, so the fabric itself holds up to prolonged wet weather.

With the user rule that all hard shells are four-season, this tent is intended to be used year-round when combined with suitable bedding and attention to local conditions.

Setup and access

At camp, you release the shell latches and lift the top—gas struts assist the opening, so most of the work is done for you. The tent is accessed via an aluminum telescopic ladder, which adjusts to your vehicle height and tucks away when closed. Because your mattress and bedding can stay inside the shell, setup and pack-down stay fast and consistent, even on quick overnight stops.

Interior space and comfort

The Family Hard Shell provides a sleeping footprint of 182 x 210 cm (about 72 in x 83 in, roughly 6 ft x 6 ft 11 in). That’s enough room for 3 adults, or up to 5 people if some are kids or if you pack more tightly.

A high-density 3 cm (about 1.2 in) foam mattress is included, with a waterproof, washable cover. It’s not bulky, which keeps the shell slim, but it does give a consistent, flat surface compared to sleeping on uneven seat backs or cargo. The canvas walls and fly create a dark, sheltered interior with windows that can be opened for airflow while the built-in mesh keeps insects out.

Construction and materials

Inside the fabric, the tent is built around a rigid ABS shell and an aluminum frame. The combination keeps weight reasonable while providing a solid platform that bolts to standard crossbars or rack systems. All main fabrics are rip-stop and treated for water, UV, and mold resistance, so the tent is aimed at repeated use rather than occasional weekends only. The aluminum telescopic ladder resists corrosion, and the included mounting hardware is designed to work with common roof rack setups.
